Pods
Pods decide what happens when something fires. A filter-based pod reacts when a trade matches its Filter: be told via email and the Activity Tab, or simulate the trade on paper.
Pod types
There are three pod types:
| Pod type | What it does | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Email Alert | Emails you and lands a notification in the Activity tab when a matching trade occurs. Nothing is traded. | None, informational only. |
| Paper Copy Trade (tile: Paper Trade) | Simulates copying the trades that match your filter, with full PnL accounting and position tracking on simulated capital. The honest measurement of whether a filter works. | None, no capital at risk. Fully simulated. |
| Paper Discretionary (tile: Discretionary Trade) | Manual trading from the pod page — you pick the coin and place orders yourself, with simulated capital. Filter-less. | None, simulated. |
A common pattern is email alert + paper copy trade on the same filter. The alerts surface candidate trades for human review while the paper pod keeps an honest scoreboard.
The Pods tab
The Pods tab lists everything you have set up, with an Active toggle on copy-trade pods (discretionary pods have no toggle) and (for trade pods) capital and PnL. The list is grouped into sections: each trading group has its own table with an aggregate card row above it - Effective Capital, Total PnL, Total Return, Win Rate, and Positions - plus a one-line note stating the group’s fee basis. The email alert section is a plain table with no cards (email pods have no trading state).
Creating a Pod
- Go to the Pods tab
- Click the + button
- Step 1: Choose pod type
- Step 2: Fill in the form (see details below)
- Click Create
Filter-based pods require:
- Pod Name — a descriptive label (e.g., “Whale Trades Alert”)
- Filter — which trades trigger this pod. Cannot be changed after creation. Create a new pod to use a different filter. (Discretionary pods are filter-less and skip this entirely.)
Pods are created enabled and start acting immediately — there is no “Active on creation” switch. To pause a copy-trade pod without deleting it, flip its Active toggle off on the pod detail page or in the Pods list. Discretionary pods have no Active toggle.
Email Alert
Notifies you when a matching trade occurs, delivered to an email address and to the in-app Activity notification center.
Fields (Email delivery)
| Field | Description | Required | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email Address | Where to send notifications | Yes | N/A |
| Rate Window | Rolling window for the email cap — Per hour or Per day. | Yes | Per hour |
| Max Emails | Cap on alert emails within the rolling window | Yes | 3/h (3/day) |
Throttle Limit
The throttle cap is Per hour or Per day, default 3 (range 1 to 144 for either window — unlike Polymarket, Hyperliquid’s daily cap is not a multiple of the hourly cap). Pick either window at creation; the pod list shows each pod’s throttle cap. Once the cap is reached, additional matching trades stop generating emails until the window rolls forward.
Paper Copy Trade
Simulates copying trades that match your filter. Tracks full PnL and position accounting with simulated capital only.
Pods copy a trader’s moves with USD notional sizing that has leverage already applied: position.size is the USD notional of the position, and PnL is size × price-move (there is no extra leverage multiplier applied on top, because leverage is already baked into the size). Sizing is capped by the pod’s capital and position limits.
Capital Settings
| Field | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Starting Capital ($) | Total simulated capital for this strategy | $10,000 |
| Position Size (%) | Percentage of total capital allocated per trade | 5% |
| Max Position (%) | Cap on how large a single position can grow via scale-ups | 20% |
Example: With $10,000 starting capital, 5% position sizing, and 20% max — each new trade allocates $500 of notional, and a position can scale up to $2,000. Starting capital is editable in the pod’s Settings.
Exit Behavior
Controls when and how positions close:
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Follow sells | Close when the trader you’re following closes their position | ON |
| Proportional exits | Close the same fraction of the pod’s position as the followed trader sold of theirs when following a sell | ON |
| Stop-loss (%) | Auto-close a position at this percentage loss | 10% |
| Take-profit (%) | Auto-close a position at this percentage gain | 50% |
Proportional exits is a checkbox in the create-pod dialog, nested under Follow sells, and appears in pod Settings with a Yes/No badge. It’s on by default: when ON, each follow-sell closes the same fraction of the pod’s position that the followed trader sold of theirs (e.g. the trader sells 50% → the pod sells 50% of its position). When OFF, any follow-sell closes the selling trader’s entire stake in the pod’s position (a full close of their contribution), regardless of how much of their own position they sold. The create dialog and Settings describe the exact behavior inline. The setting is also settable via the public API at pod creation or update.
Stop-loss and take-profit are enforced by a price monitor that watches each open position’s coin and closes it at the configured percentage when the threshold is hit — they work even if the followed trader hasn’t sold. There is no “resolution” concept on perpetuals: the guaranteed exits are your stop/take-profit and the followed trader’s close (via follow sells).
Leverage
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Max Leverage | Cap on leverage applied to copied positions | 10x |
| Match trader leverage | Use the followed trader’s leverage, capped by Max Leverage | ON |
Position Limits
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Max Open Positions | Total concurrent positions this pod can hold | 10 |
| Max per Asset | Max concurrent positions on the same coin | 2 |
Two different pods for the same user can hold the same coin concurrently; per-pod isolation is enforced by these limits.
Discretionary pods
A Discretionary Trade pod is filter-less: instead of reacting to filter matches, you trade manually from the pod page - pick a coin, a size, and a direction, and place a paper order on simulated capital. Because there’s no filter, the copy-trade concept of “follow sells” doesn’t apply; you manage and close positions yourself from the pod page. Discretionary pods are created enabled, are included in their group’s aggregate card row above, and can be shared just like copy-trade pods.
Pod Detail Page
Click any pod row (or the pod name in your pod list) to open the detail view. The available sections differ by pod type.
- Performance (trade pods): summary cards for Effective Capital, Total PnL (realized + unrealized, with a peak marker), Total Return, Win Rate (count-based), and Positions (open/closed, with a peak-open marker), plus an Equity Curve of the pod’s equity (starting capital + realized PnL; the latest point includes unrealized). Effective Capital = starting capital + realized + unrealized PnL.
- Open Positions: live positions with columns Coin | Direction | Leverage | Entry Price | Size | PnL | Return | Trader | Actions. Each open position has a Close action to manually exit at the current price.
- Closed Positions: fully exited positions with columns Coin | Direction | Leverage | Entry | Exit | Size | PnL | Hold Time | Closed At.
- Trade Activity: every pod event with columns Timestamp | Type | Coin | Trader | Size | Decision; rows are expandable.
- Analytics (trade pods): five breakdown tables — By Trader Score, By Trade Size, By Coin, By Direction, By Trader — each showing Bucket / Trades / PnL / Avg Return, pre-sorted by absolute PnL, plus a “Processed” timestamp. The tables populate as positions close. (There are no summary metric cards on this tab; the headline numbers live in the Performance section above.)
- Audit Log: configuration change history with before/after diffs.
- Settings: edit the pod’s configuration. The filter stays locked. For email pods you can change the throttle window (hourly/daily, up to 144).
Email pods
Email pods show Email Activity (delivery history with per-email status: sent / throttled / failed) and Audit Log, and have no performance or positions. Email pods cannot be shared — there is no trading performance to show.
When you delete a copy-trade pod, the confirmation tells you what will be removed (positions and performance data). Deleting a filter that has pods attached is refused until those pods are deleted first (see Filters).
Notifications
- In-app: every alert and pod event lands in the app’s Activity tab notification center, streamed live, with a badge count and archive controls. See Overview — Activity Tab.
- Email: email pods additionally send throttled emails to the address you configured.
There is no separate Hyperliquid “notifications” page — in-app notifications live in the Activity tab, and email goes to your inbox via email pods.
Managing Pods
- Enable/Disable: copy-trade pods have an Active toggle on each pod row (or the pod detail page); discretionary pods have no toggle.
- Edit: modify configuration (name, email, throttle; for copy-trade pods, exit/leverage/limits). The filter cannot be changed.
- Delete: confirmation required; removes the pod and its history.
Tips
- Start with an email alert to validate your filter catches what you expect.
- Then add a paper copy trade to the same filter to track simulated performance.
- Throttle conservatively at first: high-volume filters can generate many matches.
- Set stop-loss deliberately. With leverage, a copy pod’s downside is larger than the underlying move, so a stop-loss percentage that fits your risk is worth setting before you turn a pod loose.
